Technical standards in UK and Europe are set by the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC) and published in the Official Journal (OJ). The OJ informs manufacturers of the current and forthcoming requirements for demonstrating conformity with EU Directives for scientific and laboratory equipment, including:-

1) Low Voltage Directive (LVD) 2006/95/EC

2) Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive (EMC)

3) Electromagnetic Fields Directive (EMF) 2013/35/EU

4) Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS)

5) Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE)

This is equipment which measures, indicates, monitors, tests, controls, inspects or analyses materials or is used to prepare materials; on a stand-alone basis or integrated into a manufacturing process. It may also include in vitro diagnostic (IVD) equipment and equipment used for educational purposes in schools and colleges.
